The Holy Spirit & The Fruit of The Spirit!

One of the emblems of the Holy Spirit in Scriptures is water that supplies life and nutrition to a believer. It also refreshes the dry land with springs of water, which means that it alleviates the dryness in a believer to refresh and replenish what exactly a believer needs for their sustenance and life.

The Holy Spirit is the Living Water!

Jesus promises us living waters if we believe in Him according to the Scriptures: “‘He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified” (John 7:38-39).

Jesus is the giver of the living waters as He spoke to the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well: “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:13-14).

The secret to receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit begins with a passion for Jesus! My first experience with God was love for Jesus, who came to touch me when I was close to death with bleeding ulcers. It is the dominant love for Jesus that fills me to glorify Jesus with all my heart, soul, and strength. I never even heard of the Holy Spirit, but my love for Jesus and my passion to glorify Him led me to the baptism in the Holy Spirit.  I can hardly forget the night when a visiting evangelist was ministering at our small group meeting, when he started praying for the people to receive the Holy Spirit. After crying out to God all evening for wanting closeness with Him, even before the evangelist approached me (he was praying for the third person away from me), I was filled with the Holy Spirit. I was practically lifted off the floor and started experiencing a surge all inside of me. The evidence of the anointing by the Holy Spirit was that I was filled with more unfeigned love–love unconditional and love for the unlovable and strangers and all, accompanied by a surge of power–power to say “No” to unclean things, the power I did not have before!

There is no formula for receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit. The only requirement is that you have the passion to be filled with Jesus.

The Holy Spirit Fertilizes!

Fertilizing: “He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers (channels) of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper” (Psalm 1:3).

The Scriptures render that we are “trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified” (Isaiah 61:3).

The nutrient for the blossoming of the tree is the Holy Spirit. As we get away from the ungodly, depart from the counsel of sinners, avoid the mockers of God, and spend time meditating on God’s Word, we will be trees of righteousness, enjoying the channels of living waters by the Holy Spirit to produce fruit in our seasons.

Refreshing: “I will open rivers in desolate heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water” (Isaiah 41:18).

Seasons of dryness are not uncommon to believers. Our dry seasons will be changed by the power of the Holy Spirit, refreshing us with springs of living water. There is no limitation on where and how God will bless us, whether we are in desolate heights or down in the valleys.

The Holy Spirit Produces Fruit!

Here is a promise to all those who put their trust in the Lord: “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit” (Jeremiah 17:7-8).

The Holy Spirit produces fruit in the life of a believer: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy (gladness), peace, longsuffering (patience, an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such there is no law (that can bring a charge)” (Galatians 5:22-23).

Love is poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit: “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Romans 5:5).

“The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). The Holy Spirit is the strength provider for the believer, and He fills a believer with joy in the most unexpected circumstances.

“Peace is not absence from trouble, but the presence of God!” The peace that passes all understanding fills a believer through the power of the Holy Spirit!

When we are filled with God’s gifts of love, joy, and peace by the Holy Spirit, our lives are filled with the other fruits of the Spirit: patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

The fruit of the Spirit is the indicator of our intimacy with God by receiving what He gives us and what we produce as a result. There is no faking of the fruit of the Spirit, just as there is no faking of the birth of a child by intimacy between a loving husband and a wife.

Prayer

“Heavenly Father, I love You and adore You. I yield my life to You. Please help me produce fruit that You desire of me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!”
