The Holy Spirit – The Seal of God!
Citizenship of the coveted USA was not easy, at least for me, when I came for my graduate program at the Pennsylvania State University in State College, PA. When Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University offered me an Assistant Professor’s position based on the sole condition that I should be a Permanent Resident or a Citizen of the United States for their hire, I had neither qualification. But God was gracious enough to grant me favor from the University that offered me the job; however, they had to advertise my position statewide in Florida, nationwide in the United States, and internationally through the Journal of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics to receive competing applicants for my job. The rule of the Immigration and Naturalization Services is that no outsider should replace a local American to get a job unless and otherwise, they are qualified with an exceptional talent to add to (and not take away from) the exceptionalism of America. 25 candidates were interviewed, and I was still selected for the permanent job, which I was given temporarily before the final selection.
Then I was granted a Labor Certificate from the Department of Labor, based on which I was called for an interview for my Permanent Residency status in Jacksonville, Florida. Before the interview, my lawyer prepared me to give detailed answers to the questions that I either said, “Yes, Sir!” “No, Sir!” It so happened that my interviewer was a harsh examiner who turned down 19 out of 20 applicants during the same week before my interview. I saw the pale face of my lawyer at the very moment he saw my examiner. He whispered to me again about my answers to the point.
The interview started:
“Have you ever stolen from anybody?”
“No, Sir.”
“Have you taken illegal drugs?”
“No, Sir.”
“Have you protested against the United States anywhere, especially on foreign soil?”
“No, Sir.”
Here was the final question when I lost it:
“Have you ever begged in the streets of America?”
“No, Sir. My God has supplied all my needs according to His riches in glory through Christ Jesus, SIR!”
I could see at the corner of my eye that my lawyer was so perplexed that he ducked his head and wanted to go under the table!
Something remarkable happened!
My Examiner, Mr. Menendez, stood up and extended his hand to shake mine. I also stood up and shook his hands.
“Are you a Christian?”
“Yes, Sir. I am.”
“Welcome to the United States. You are granted Permanent Residency in our great country. I have a favor to ask of you.”
“Yes, Sir.”
“Five years from now, you will be allowed to become a citizen of this great country. Please do not turn it down and take citizenship. WE NEED MORE GODLY PEOPLE LIKE YOU IN OUR COUNTRY!”
“Yes, Sir. My wife and I will.”
It was one of the memorable moments in my life when I became a citizen of this great country.
Passport to Heaven!
Jesus mentioned the absolute requirement to get into heaven: “Jesus answered and said to (Nicodemus), ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born (from above) again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.’ Nicodemus said to Him, ‘How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?’ Jesus answered, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God’” (John 3:3-5). Entry to heaven is validated only by spiritual birth, which is just as significant as our physical birth.
As believers, we are Heavenly Citizens: “Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit” (Ephesians 2:19-22).
We are Citizens of Heaven and Strangers in the World: “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:20).
God Prepared a City in Heaven: “But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them” (Hebrews 11:16).
Renunciation: When I became a citizen of this great United States of America, I had to renounce citizenship to my old country and surrender my citizenship to that country. I could no longer be a citizen of both countries. We must do the same with this world, which no longer has hold of us as heaven does.
The moment a believer gives their heart to Jesus, at that very moment, they are “Born Again” and are “Sealed by the Holy Spirit” and have become a citizen of heaven. There is no undocumented citizen who can enter heaven except those who are born anew by the blood of Jesus.
The Holy Spirit is A Seal!
God had the 144,000-elect sealed by the Holy Spirit from being hurt from the plagues coming on the earth during the Tribulation: “Then I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God. And he cried with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, saying, ‘Do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees till we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads’” (Revelation 7:2-3).
As God seals His servants upon their foreheads, so is the devil who boasts his seal upon his followers in the world. In the country where I came from, it was a standard practice of the followers of the pagan religions to decorate their foreheads with a dot or ashes as a symbol of their dedication to their gods. God was angry at Israel when Israel started following the pagan gods and their rituals. He withheld His blessings of showers and the latter rain because of that very reason: “Therefore, the showers have been withheld, and there has been no latter rain. You have had a harlot’s forehead; you refuse to be ashamed” (Jeremiah 3:3).
Satan enforces his seal upon the world at the time of Tribulation: “And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived. He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666” (Revelation 13:14-18).
Beware of the seal that many leaders and organizations may try to put on you. There are secret societies that operate by enforcing their seals upon their followers. You must renounce all of them but hold only onto the heavenly seal, the Holy Spirit.
A caution to the leaders, even in the ministry – Do not control your spheres of influence with your seal to control, manipulate, and run the lives of people. I strongly believe that many leaders are unfit to enter heaven, not because of their human sins and weaknesses which God forgives readily once we confess and repent of them, but mainly because of their narcissistic behavior of projecting themselves above God in holding their followers in admiration and worship of them, more than pointing them to God and the Spirit of God. Many families have been divided not because of the church but because of some people who have injected a “religious spirit” into many people by projecting themselves above God.
It is my experience that I would rather chase a demon out of a person rather than set them free from the worship of a system or individuals who have put their seals upon them. Only God can, when we listen to the Spirit of God and surrender to the cross to crucify our flesh and all the idols that are exalting themselves above God.
The Seal of the Holy Spirit is Authenticating!
Jesus came bearing the seal of His Father: “Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him” (John 6:27).
The Holy Spirit is the guarantee to every believer: “Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee” (II Corinthians 1:21-22).
The Securing Seal of the Holy Spirit!
I am forever thankful that I do not belong to anyone other than my God who has sealed me with His word of truth, His salvation, and the Holy Spirit: “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee (down payment, earnest) of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory” (Ephesians 1:13-14).
As I have mentioned several times in my earlier messages that salvation and the gift of the Holy Spirit are but a down payment of our full spiritual inheritance, but that same salvation and the gift of the Holy Spirit secure us forever and prepare us for the fullness of God here now and through all eternity.
Grieve Not the Holy Spirit!
“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor (loud quarreling), and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you” (Ephesians 4:30-32).
Finally, take comfort in the fact that we are sealed by the Holy Spirit for the day of redemption. Apostle Paul admonishes that all bitterness, wrath, anger, loud quarreling, and evil speaking must cease out of our lives, as we offer up ourselves as the temples of God where the Holy Spirit resides. Let us be examples of Christ on the earth by being kind to one another, forgiving one another, merciful, gracious, and tender-hearted.
Salvation and the Holy Spirit Equip Us with a Passport to Heaven!
We are Heaven’s Citizens, and the World is Not Our Home!
Let us Renounce the World and Follow Christ!
The Holy Spirit is a Seal to Protect and Preserve Us from the Judgment of God!
Let us Point Everyone to Christ and NOT Draw Them to Ourselves!
The Holy Spirit is a Guarantee to establish us in Christ and anoint us with God’s Anointing!
Our Spiritual Inheritance Begins with a Small Down Payment from God – Salvation and the Seal of the Holy Spirit!
There is So Much More from God That We Constantly Gain Here on Earth, Even Before Eternity, by Our Love, Humility, and Obedience to God!
Let us Not Grieve the Holy Spirit but Dedicate Ourselves to a Holy Living in Christ!
Let us rejoice in the Power and the Presence of the Holy Spirit by which God Has Sealed Us!
Prayer
“Heavenly Father, I love You and adore You. I thank You for the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ, Your Precious Son, and the gift of Your Holy Spirit. Thank You, Lord, for sealing me and securing me for You and You alone. I have been purchased by the blood of Jesus, transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit, and preserved and protected to share Your glory through the temple of my body. I yield, surrender, and obey Your Holy Spirit to become all that You have desired me to become and to complete my calling here on the earth. In the Precious and Wonderful Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen! Amen!!”
