The Secret of The Lord!

“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law” (Deuteronomy 29:29).

The secret things belong to the Lord our God!

Yet, things are revealed to us and our children!

How? From Torah – the Word of God!

That we may do all the words of this law (Torah)!

The Word “Secret!”

Hebrew ‘cathar–saw–thar’ means “to hide, conceal, to hide oneself, to be hidden, be concealed, to hide carefully, to hide oneself carefully.”

It means that God hides Himself carefully in places where one is wise enough to look for and glean from Him. The starting place where we can come to see God and understand Him is God’s Word (the Torah).

What Are Some of God’s Secret Things?

1)     Hidden Knowledge – Counsel of GodGod’s counsel was present with Job even at such an early age, in his youth: “Just as I was in the days of my prime, when the friendly counsel of God was over my tent” (Job 29:4). Job knew what God wanted at his youth!

2)     Wisdom of God – The counsel of God is the beginning of wisdom: “Have you heard the counsel of God? Do you limit wisdom to yourself” (Job 15:8)?  The counsel of God leads to understanding and wisdom. Wisdom is the hidden knowledge that comes from God!

3)     God’s Timing – David placed his times in God’s hand, because he knew that God controlled time as we know it and would bring His appointed times upon him and his matters: “My times are in Your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me” (Psalm 31:15).  “You will arise and have mercy on Zion; for the time to favor her, yes, the set time, has come” (Psalm 102:13). When we place our time in the hand of God, we will not miss God’s leading of us in His timing!

4)     God’s Mystery (His Hidden Truth)“Behold, I tell you a mystery (hidden truth): we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory” (I Corinthians 15:51-54). God unlocks His hidden truth to those who wait for Him!

5)     All That God Has in Store for His Loved Ones“Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have prepared for those who trust in You in the presence of the sons of men! You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion (shelter) from the strife of tongues” (Psalm 31:19-20). God promised Tirus, God’s instrument who blessed Israel: “I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the Lord, who call you by your name, am the God of Israel” (Isaiah 45:3). God hides His blessings for His loved ones in His secret place only to release them at the most appropriate time!

6)     God’s Secret Protection of His Loved Ones: “For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret place of His tabernacle, He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock” (Psalm 27:5). God’s protection of His loved ones in His secret place is outlined in the entire Psalm 91. Here is just a portion of it: “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.’ Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler (trap) and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday” (Psalm 91:1-6).

Gateway to God’s Secrets!

God’s Word!

God’s Word is the starting point for knowing God and His secrets. God’s Word reveals God’s hidden personality and His principles of operation to conform us in His image. That confirmation begins with doing His will. How do we know His will? Once again, God’s Word helps us to know His will as the Psalmist proclaims: “I delight to do Your will, O my God, and Your law is within my heart” (Psalm 40:8). When we carry God’s Word within our hearts, God’s will become abundantly clear, and we delight to do His will.

Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Knowing God’s Secrets!

A healthy fear leads us to respect, admire, and learn from our teachers. Likewise, the fear of the Lord is the basis for understanding all God is desirous to teach us. First, we will know all that God has in His holy covenant to bless His children: “The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant” (Psalm 25:14).

God’s covenant is “God’s binding contract!” How can we know His covenant without reading His contract, which is revealed in His written word? Righteousness begins with believing in God and receiving all that He has spoken in His Word. Follow the example of Abraham: “(Abraham) did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. And therefore, it was accounted to him for righteousness” (Romans 4:20-22).

Revelation of God’s Secrets!

As we meditate on God’s Word, we will experience moments when we receive God’s revelation, which is “a sudden burst of God’s knowledge in a greater measure!” It is not just the head knowledge but the revelation that transforms our lives. Peter experienced it when he said: “But Simon Peter answered Him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also, we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ (the Anointed One), the Son of the living God’” (John 6:68-69).  In our learning of the revealed truths of God from God’s Word, we will experience the transformation through the revelation of who God is and what His personality is. Transformation helps us to know more than God’s Word – We will come to know the God of the Word! This revelation of God brings us to an unshakable faith in God: “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). Faith too is a hidden mystery that unlocks God in His truest nature in His personality and in His office which when revealed to a believer, that believer pleases God with their understanding of God. The greatest pleasure of God is to believe Him, and the greatest pain of God is to doubt him.

God’s Service is the Gateway to Knowing God’s Secrets – God’s Servants!

God’s Word is the beginning of our learning from God!

This learning then recognizes the service to which God has called us.

When we respond to God’s service, our levels of learning have changed!

Now, we will experience receiving orders from God!

We are now in direct and constant communication with God!

God is about to disclose more than what we know from the revealed Word – He is about to reveal His secrets. A servant is privileged to receive God’s secrets: “Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7). One example is Abraham when God came to him to disclose what He was about to do with the twin cities of Sodom and Gomorrah: “Then the men rose from there and looked toward Sodom, and Abraham went with them to send them on the way. And the Lord said, ‘Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing, since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him” (Genesis 18:16-19).

Notice the order of learning with Abraham from God’s mouth before he came to know the secret of God:

·        Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation!

·        All the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him!

·        I know him!

·        He may command his children and his household after him!

·        They keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice!

·        That the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him!

The first two points above speak of God’s covenant blessings upon Abraham. Abraham progressed further to earn God’s trust in him: “I KNOW HIM!” God also knew that Abraham would teach his descendants the way of the Lord and God’s fulfillment in their lives! Now, God takes him one step further to disclose His plan of judgment upon Sodom – HIS SECRET!

Jesus disclosed His friendship with His disciples, which included His revelation of heavenly secrets to them: “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.  These things I command you, that you love one another” (John 15:15-17). God’s favor comes upon those who have earned the friendship of Jesus!

Today, every servant of God is sent by God with orders from God, which include God’s plans, strategies, cautions, warnings, and the secrets to make their missions successful and to set the people free.

A word of caution to ALL BELIEVERS – when God sends His servant who operates with God’s gift of revelation, especially with the Word of Knowledge, Word of Wisdom, and the gift of Prophecy, the believers flock to them to hear what God says about them through His servants. The believer must NOT restrict themselves only to “hear a word from the Lord, or the secrets of God,” but also DEVOTE themselves to the learning process of the fundamentals of God’s Word through the Scriptures and grow in the knowledge and the wisdom of God. A believer who does not spend time in God’s Word will LACK knowing God and will have built a building without a foundation, which will NOT stand on the day of their calamity and will be the subject of God’s refusal of knowing them: “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness’” (Matthew 7:21-23)!

God’s words about Abraham: “I know him!”

God’s words about those in the above example: “I never knew you!”

Prayer is the Gateway to the Secrets of God!

Prayer is a powerful tool to unlock God’s secrets. This is the reason why the devil has kept many believers from praying and seeking God. Notice what happened when Daniel and his friends prayed: “Then Daniel went to his house, and made the decision known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions, that they might seek mercies from the God of heaven concerning this secret, so that Daniel and his companions might not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. Then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a night vision. So, Daniel blessed the God of heaven. Daniel answered and said: ‘Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for wisdom and might are His. And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding. He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him” (Daniel 2:17-22). Prayer not only unlocks the secrets of God from His archives for others but also brings to our remembrance what we have heard from our God but forgotten to remember.

Apostle Paul writes about prayer that brings understanding of what the Spirit of God reveals: “For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the conclusion, then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding” (I Corinthians 14:14-15). Only in prayer did my ministry change from the ordinary to the impactful; I received instructions to speak to national leaders whom I had never met before. I came to know the enemy's stronghold from territory to territory in the nations God led me to minister. God revealed His heavenly secrets to unworthy vessels like me. To God be all the glory!

Let us enter the secret place with God in prayer as Jesus admonishes us: “You, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly” (Matthew 6:5-6). “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1). Dwelling in the ‘secret place’ of God requires ‘praying in secret’ to

God that reveals the ‘Heart of God!’

·        The secret things belong to God!

·        They include God’s hidden knowledge, God’s Counsel, God’s Wisdom, God’s Timing, God’s

Mysteries, all of what God has in Store in His Covenant Relationship with His People, and God’s Secret Protection of His People!

·        The Gateway to God’s Secrets is His Word, Fear of the Lord, Revelation Through God’s Word, God’s Servants in His Choice Service, and Communication to God Through Prayer!

·        The Secret of God Brings Clarity!

·        It Brings Understanding!

·        It Keeps Up Ready to Not Miss the Timing of the Lord!

·        Most Importantly, It Helps Us to KNOW the GOD OF HIS WORD!

·        It Reveals God’s Heart!

·        It Transforms Our Heart!

Prayer

“Heavenly Father, I love You and adore You. Change my heart, O God, and make it like Yours by Your Word, Your Revelation, and transformation by Your Holy Spirit to conform me to the image of Your Precious Son, Jesus. I long to dwell in Your holy presence. Please cleanse me, Lord, and make me worthy of receiving all You want to share with me. In the Precious and Wonderful Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen! Amen!!”
