Victory Over Amalekites!
“Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. And Moses said to Joshua, ‘Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.’ So, Joshua did as Moses said to him and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands became heavy (weary of being held up); so, they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. So, Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.’ And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-Lord-Is-My-Banner (YHWH Nissi); for he said, ‘Because the Lord has sworn (a hand upon the throne of the Lord): the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation’” (Exodus 17:8-16).
Amalek – “warlike, dweller in the valley” was the grandson of Esau, Genesis 36:12. Eliphaz (Esau’s son) was the father of Amalek through his concubine Timna.
A Terrorist - Fought with Israel in a Cunning Way!
“Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.”
How was he a terrorist? God explained: “Remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you were coming out of Egypt, how he met you on the way and attacked your rear ranks, all the stragglers at your rear, when you were tired and weary; and he did not fear God. Therefore, it shall be, when the Lord your God has given you rest from your enemies all around, in the land which the Lord your God is giving you to possess as an inheritance, that you will blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. You shall not forget” (Deuteronomy 25:17-19).
God does not like terrorists, and in fact, He has war with them from generation to generation. God did not even spare King Saul, who spared the Amalekites: “Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he ambushed him on the way when he came up from Egypt. Now go and attack (strike) Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’..But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them. But everything despised and worthless, that they utterly destroyed” (I Samuel 15:2,3,9). Ironically, an Amalekite claimed to have ended the life of Saul when he was severely wounded on the battlefield!
Israel has been fighting Amalek since the time of Moses to the time of Esther in the hand of Haman, an Agagite, in the time of King Saul, and until now. Israel or any other nation has the right to defend itself or annihilate the terrorism they are facing from generation to generation.
Moses Took Charge and Commissioned Joshua, the Fighter!
“And Moses said to Joshua, ‘Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek.’”
When there is a true attack on your family, your company, your community, and the nation, you must be a leader, taking charge to annihilate the enemy, and you must have fighters in your camp under your command! Joshua and the other servants under Moses were ready when Moses went up to the mountain to receive the commandments of God: “So, Moses arose with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up to the mountain of God. And he said to the elders, ‘Wait here for us until we come back to you. Indeed, Aaron and Hur are with you. If any man has a difficulty, let him go to them.’ Then Moses went up into the mountain, and a cloud covered the mountain” (Exodus 24:13-15). Obedience to God and harmonious fellowship with your team enable you, as a fighting team, to overcome your adversities.
Moses Was on Top of the Hill!
“Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.”
Moses climbed the hill with the rod of God in his hand! There was a separation of leadership from the public to a mountain to investigate and discern the enemy's tactics. The tactics are the same today. Today, we have satellite imagery to help nations monitor the enemy's movements, especially terrorists!
Moses took the rod, which was his “shepherd’s rod,” with him. This speaks of Moses assuming his position as the one called, anointed, and separated to God’s leading. Never forget who you are in Christ, as a child of God, who is empowered to have victory over your enemy!
Are you a leader of the home, church, community, and nation who can SEE and DISCERN the enemy’s moves?
Are you a leader who is conscious of YOUR CALLING?
Aaron and Hur for SUPPORT!
“And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.”
Joshua was a fighter, but Aaron and Hur were Moses’ elders to offer up support! Some battles will involve the whole team fighting against the enemy. Do you have a team in place? Jesus said: “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:18-20).
Are you unified as a family, team, community, and nation to fight a common enemy?
The Battle Was Fierce!
“And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.”
For as long as Moses exercised his powerful position, the battle was won, but as soon as Moses let go of his position, the battle was lost.
Power is best used when it is NOT for an effective leader, but some battles demand us exercising our God-given authority and power Jesus offered: “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19).
Support for Moses!
“But Moses’ hands became heavy (weary of being held up); so, they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.”
Aaron and Hur held up Moses’ hands until the evening for as long as the battle lasted.
Elders around an effective leader offer COUNCIL, SUPPORT, and PRAYER during an extensive battle against the enemy. Jesus warned of the battles we will face in the last days, which will not stop but will be prolonged to lasting awhile. He said, “And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved” (Matthew 24:12-13).
ENDURANCE IS KEY TO SURVIVAL IN THE DAYS WE ARE LIVING IN!
The Battle Won Over Amalek!
“So, Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.”
Joshua and the army of Israel defeated Amalek, as Moses lifted his hands to hold his position in God, and Aaron and Hur supported the tired and weary hands of Moses. It was VICTORY for the army of God!
Many battles are lost for many reasons:
· The leaders are lacking the determination to face the enemy!
· The leaders have not dedicated themselves to the calling of God!
· The leaders do not have trustworthy successors to fight the battles with them!
· No unity and harmony among the team; everyone is engaged in their own activities and businesses, contrary to what the Lord’s will is for the whole team!
· The terrorists succeed in wreaking havoc among the people of God!
Don’s Forget Your Victories!
“Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.’”
Do not forget the occasions when the enemy terrorized you, not to be held in fear, but to rejoice in the Name of the Lord who has given you victory! We walk by faith and not by sight, but faith becomes unshakable when we lay hold of all the victories of our battles. Our faith grows stronger as we face the next battle, with a team in place to fight it.
Altar of Significance!
“And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-Lord-Is-My-Banner (YHWH Nissi); for he said, ‘Because the Lord has sworn (a hand upon the throne of the Lord): the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation’” (Exodus 17:8-16).
The-Lord-Is-My-Banner (YHWH Nissi)!
“Because the Lord has sworn (a hand upon the throne of the Lord): the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation!”
It is one thing to enjoy victory in the hand of God once in our battles, but for some battles (especially the terrorizing tactics of the enemy), we not only enjoy victory but receive a SWORN PROMISE OF GOD’S BANNER OVER US for the enemy never to cross the line! Today, God has set the banner over His children by the BLOOD OF JESUS that Satan fears to cross over because the battle of all the battles has been won at the CROSS!
God is against the blindsided and defenseless attacks on His people!
God hates terrorism, witchcraft, child and women abuse, abortion, and all other backdoor sabotage (such as gossip) against God’s people!
Some battles are so fierce that the leader must pay attention to resolving them!
The whole family, team, church, and community must be in their proper place to fight the battle against the enemy. Remember, the enemy will have his stronghold against the weakest member of your team!
The families and the churches must stand together to fight against a common enemy!
ENDURANCE IS KEY TO WINNING THE LASTING BATTLES!
Remember your victories to celebrate God and His goodness upon you!
Your faith will be stronger at the end of every battle as God has given you victory!
Prayer
“Heavenly Father, I love You and adore You. Keep me under Your mighty hand to learn from You and receive the strength and the power of the Holy Spirit from You. I am responsible for my family and all that You have committed into my hands. Help me be sensitive to the cunning devices of the enemy against my family and me. As You graciously watch over me, please help me watch over all that You have given me to preserve and protect all. I thank You for my victories. In the most Precious and Wonderful Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen! Amen!!”
