Doors, Doors, and Doors!
Here is the significance of some (eight) important doors mentioned in the Bible! Six of the doors are God-controlled but two are in our control!
God-Controlled Door of Protection!
The Angels Protected Lot from the Mob: “So, Lot went out to them through the doorway, shut the door behind him, and said, ‘Please, my brethren, do not do so wickedly!’…And they said, ‘Stand back!’ Then they said, ‘This one came in to stay here, and he keeps acting as a judge; now we will deal worse with you than with them.’ So, they pressed hard against the man Lot and came near to break down the door. But the men reached out their hands and pulled Lot into the house with them and shut the door. And they struck the men who were at the doorway of the house with blindness, both small and great so that they became weary trying to find the door” (Genesis 19:6-7, 9-11). The door was the dividing line between the violent mob and Lot’s family hosting the angels!
God-Controlled Door of Preservation!
God Preserved Noah’s Family from the Flood by Shutting the Door Himself: “So those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him; and the Lord shut him in” (Genesis 7:16). God shut the door rather than the other way around, taking the control away from Noah. In times of judgment, God in His righteousness and justice holds control!
God Opens the Door with Access!
God Opens the Door for the Faithful: “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, ‘These things say He who is holy, He who is true, ‘He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens’: ‘I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name” (Revelation 3:7-8). There is open access to every believer who obeys and keeps God’s Word!
Jesus is The Door to Salvation and the Father!
Jesus is the Door to Salvation: “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep” (John 10:9-11). The entry to God’s presence is Jesus; the door to the supernatural is Jesus; the access to God’s heart is Jesus, and only Jesus!
The Final Door of Separation Between the Wise and the Unwise!
Those who are Watchful and Ready will Make it: “And while (the foolish virgins) went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding, and the door was shut” (Matthew 25:10). The only thing that separated the wise and the foolish virgins was the door! Inside, there was joy in the presence of the Bridegroom, Jesus; outside, there was weeping and gnashing of teeth!
The Following Will Not Make It:
1) Workers of Iniquity: “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” (Matthew 7:21-23). God's will supersedes God's wonders, and those who submit to God’s will are accepted, and the others are rejected!
2) The Foolish Virgins: “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you’” (Matthew 25:11-12). There comes a time when prayers are not answered because of a lack of relationship with God!
3) The Unprofitable Servant: “For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 25:29-30). Unprofitable servants with ignorance of God and His ways will not be rewarded on the day of judgment!
4) The One Without a Wedding Garment: “But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. So, he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ ‘For many are called, but few are chosen’” (Matthew 22:11-14). Settling for blessings and feasts without salvation will cost you in the end!
The Door We Control - We Shut the Door to Communicate Secretly with God!
Your Secret Communication with the Father: “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly” (Matthew 6:6). God remembers every prayer we pray in our secret place and answers!
Here are a few quotes from Rev. Leonard Ravenhill from his book: “Why Revival Tarries?”
"The secret of praying is praying in secret. A sinning man will stop praying, and a praying man will stop sinning!”
“No man is greater than his prayer life. The pastor who is not praying is playing; the people who are not praying are straying. The pulpit can be a shop window to display one’s talents; the prayer closet allows no showing off!”
“Poverty-stricken as the church is today in many things, she is most stricken here, in the place of prayer. We have many organizers, but a few agonizers; many players and payers, few pray-ers; many singers, few clingers; lots of pastors, few wrestlers; many fears, few tears; much fashion, little passion; many interferers, few intercessors; many writers, but few fighters. Failing here, we fail everywhere!”
Prophet Elisha Received God’s Answer in the Secret Place: “When Elisha came into the house, there was the child, lying dead on his bed. He went in, shut the door behind the two of them, and prayed to the Lord. And he went up and lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands; and he stretched himself out on the child, and the flesh of the child became warm. He returned and walked back and forth in the house, and again went up and stretched himself out on him; then the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. And he called Gehazi and said, ‘Call this Shunammite woman.’ So, he called her. And when she came in, he said, ‘Pick up your son.’ So, she went in, fell at his feet, and bowed to the ground; then she picked up her son and went out” (II Kings 4:32-37). God honors His servants praying in secret!
The Door We Control - We Open the Door to Jesus for Fellowship!
Jesus Longs for Fellowship: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne” (Revelation 3:20-21). The elevation to sit with Him on Jesus’ throne begins with us opening the door of our hearts to invite Him for fellowship!
God Opens the Heavenly Door to Eternal Praise and Worship!
The door was open to John in heaven: “After these things, I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, ‘Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this’” (Revelation 4:1). Enter the gates of God with thanksgiving and His heavenly courts with praise!
Worship in Heaven by The Living Creatures: “The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: ‘Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!’ Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: ‘You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created’” (Revelation 4:8-11). Heaven is the place of eternal praise to our Heavenly Father!
Worship by the Church Redeemed: “Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song, saying: ‘You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth’” (Revelation 5:8-10). Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, and He, only He has redeemed us to God from every tongue, tribe, people, and nation! Heaven is the place of worship of the Lamb by the church redeemed!
